Problems? Don’t Worry!

Once in Africa sitting in an old aircraft that was just going to lift I felt a bit uneasy. The aircraft looked somehow like one of the old buses you can find there. Was it safe? Or was it perhaps a very old aircraft they put into use temporary for some reason just this day?

I looked around to see how the other passengers felt. There was not many. An older black man sitting just behind me was repeatedly crossing himself. I had never done that myself but thought I understood the reason.

So what would I do? I was going to fly for more than two hours. In this aircraft.

I had perhaps a choice to try to leave the aircraft though it would be a lot of trouble. I decided to not do that. But what should I do during the flight?

Nothing, of course. I could not do anything particular useful if the aircraft was crashing. So there was really nothing to worry about once I was in the air.

In a recent discussion among psychologist I was reminded of this solution. It is practical in all situations. Here is a web tool for it if you ever need it:

New Free Webinar: New Perspectives on Trauma Treatment

The webinar with Daniel Siegal was very interesting and gave me some hope about the future of psychiatry/psychology. Dan seems to think they can meet. I encourage all psychiatrist to try to relearn.

And of course I encourage all psychologists to do that too. However it seems to me that psychologist are much more close to what I see as a hopeful and fruitful future in this area.

Now there is a new webinar series called New Perspectives on Trauma Treatment. I am sure it will be very interesting.

Francine Shapiro, who invented EMDR, is beginning this serie. When I first saw EMDR it looks very much like just a way to earn money. Over the years I have changed my mind and I am now very curious to see if she has got any news about how this is related to later brain research.

Pat Ogden at Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute is the next contributor in the series. I have her book “Trauma and the Body” here and I am currently reading it. This is the kind of book I have hoped for some years.

Pat Ogden

I do not know much about the other contributors yet. It will be very interesting to see what they will bring.

Free Webinar with Dan Siegel: Dancing with Your Brain

My plan was to start this blogg with some introduction, some outline of why I started this blog and what I intend to write here.

But any good planning makes room for unexpected events. ;-)

Today I recieved a message about a free webinar with Dr. Dan Siegel. He is writing about interpersonal neurobiology and mindfulness practice. So I just give you this tip. It is very much inline with the positive things I want to write about.

“Dr. Daniel Siegel is one of the most thoughtful, eloquent, scientifically solid and reputable exponents of mind/body/brain integration in the world today.”
- Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., the man who introduced mindfulness meditation in the west

Dalai Lama and Dr Dan Siegel are both interested in connecting mindfulness and interpersonal biology.

It looks very interesting and encouraging. Take a look at the webinar here:
